Discover Carolina Beach Murals on a Self-Guided Bike Tour

Carolina Beach Murals

Coastal North Carolina is a year-round destination, but the chilly beach waters in the fall/winter mean it’s time to find alternative activities to fill your vacation. A self-guided tour of the Carolina Beach murals is a great way to see stunning coastal artwork while exploring the best parts of Carolina Beach.

Founded in 2020, the Carolina Beach Mural Project is a non-profit organization that helped create a series of nearly 20 murals around the beach town. From the Carolina Beach Boardwalk to the dog-friendly Mike Chappell Park, these murals showcase Carolina Beach’s culture, history, and coastal charm.

New murals are popping up around town each year as part of this ongoing project. Bike rides are the best way to check out the murals. Go for a leisure ride and see the beautiful creations from local North Carolina artists.

Can’t Miss Murals to see Along the CB Murals Route

  1. Welcome to Carolina Beach mural

  • Artist: Susan Nutall
  • Location: Carolina Beach Town Hall – 1121 N Lake Park

Kick off your cyclecation with a one-mile bike ride from Pier Reviewed to Carolina Beach Town Hall for your official welcome to Carolina Beach! The iconic “Welcome to Carolina Beach” mural was the first in the series to be completed. A selfie in front of this mural says you’ve officially arrived at one of the best beach towns on the East Coast.

The mural was a community effort—enlisting the help of 50+ locals to create this postcard-inspired depiction of Carolina Beach. It showcases Carolina Beach’s coastal charm, fun for everyone, and a reminder that Carolina Beach is “where memories are made.”

  1. Carolina Dreamin’

Carolina Dreamin’

  • Artist: Jason Park
  • Location: Carolina Beach Boardwalk

Beachgoers aren’t the only ones making a splash in Carolina Beach. Carolina Dreamin’ brings a splash of color to coastal scenery. It’s located right on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk, just a half-mile schlep on your bike from our High Tide Hideaway vacation rental—and it even comes with complimentary bikes for guests!

Artist Jason Park spotlights everything that makes the coastal area special: surf culture, native flora only found here, and the alluring sky at sunset you’ll experience every night of your stay.

When you’re finished, make sure to stop inside Crush & Grind (https://www.facebook.com/crushandgrindinc/) for a hot chai latte.

  1. Marine Magic

Marine Magic

  • Artist: Raman Bhardwaj
  • Location: The Dive Food & Spirits – 6 N Lake Park

Carolina Beach is a charming beach town where a leisurely bike ride to dinner is an everyday activity. Set your route to The Dive Food & Spirits. You’ll not only eat delicious grub, but also see one of the popular Carolina Beach murals.

“Marine Magic” is an expansive mural covering the entire side of The Dive. The space is necessary because it features some of Carolina Beach’s favorite marine animals, including the loggerhead sea turtle, a stingray, and jellyfish.

Take your mind off sea life and dig into the “best wings on the island” at The Dive. There are arcade games inside for your rest break before biking back home. And since you’re on a bike, feel free to slurp down one of the spiked cocktails while you’re there!

  1. The Kid in All of Us

The Kid in All of Us

  • Artist: Mar’ Emilia Borja
  • Location: Mike Chappell Park – 501 Dow Rd.

A ten-minute bike ride from Pelican Pleasure brings you to Mike Chappell Park to cross off another incredible mural from the list. If your pup can keep up, it also has a dog park.

”The Kid in All of Us” is a perfect representation of why Carolina Beach is one of the most family-friendly beaches on the North Carolina coast. You’ll get plenty of fun activity ideas by looking at the playful artistic creations of kids playing soccer, water sports, and enjoying nature.

  1. Tribute to Carolina Shag

Tribute to Carolina Shag

  • Artist: Brian “JEKS” Lewis
  • Location: 100 N Lake Park Blvd

Before today’s TikTok dance trends, Carolinians had the “Carolina Shag”. This old-time viral dance craze emerged on the scene in the 1940s. It was created by Malcolm Ray “Chicken” Hicks, a member of the Shaggers Hall of Fame and forever memorialized by the Tribute to Carolina Shag mural. The mural features a portrait of “Chicken” and locals doing the shag.

Biking handles the physical exercise. Give yourself a mental workout at the iescaperooms, located on the second floor of the building.

  1. Kite’s Eye View

Kite’s Eye View

  • Artist: Nico Amortegui
  • Location: Carolina Beach Boardwalk

Go for a half-mile morning bike ride to the Carolina Beach Boardwalk from Coconut Cove for the most unique mural in the series.

“Kite’s Eye View” is an interactive mural painted right on the ground. And yes, you can walk on it! The asphalt mural is located on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk to bring a pop of color to the alleyway.

  1. Beach Breeze

Beach Breeze

  • Artist: Jenna Rice
  • Location: Carolina Beach Arcade

When you’re experiencing the cyclist’s high, it’s the perfect time to see the cool optical illusion of the “Beach Breeze” mural. Stand across the street from the Carolina Beach Arcade. At the right angle, this mural provides a 3D depiction of the annual Cape Fear Kite Festival held at the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area. The painted kits really look like they’re flying in the sky!
