Tips for Reserving Vacation Rentals During the Peak Summer Season

Beach season on the Carolina coast is finally here, but will you be there to enjoy it? Travelers are gearing up for the busy summer travel season, and that means vacation rentals are in high demand in popular coastal destinations like Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, Topsail Island, and Ocean Isle Beach.

If you’re planning to visit the coast, securing your vacation rental for the summer is the first step to kick off your vacation plans! Since many travelers are all vying for the area’s most desirable properties, we’ve got tips to make sure you get the keys to your dream vacation home.

Visitor expectations during the North Carolina beach season

Beach season in North Carolina lasts from April 1 to September 31, with the hotter summer months attracting the most visitors. With increased summer tourist crowds, visitors can expect seasonal coastal shops, restaurants, tours, and even events happening to welcome newcomers (and returning travelers) to town.

It’s the best time of year to experience North Carolina’s beach towns that you don’t want to miss out on!

Tips for finding vacation homes during the busy summer season

As your trusted North Carolina vacation rental experts, here are our recommendations for securing accommodations on the beautiful Carolina coast this summer.

  • Book direct

Booking directly is the best way to lock in your spot at your preferred vacation home. During high-demand periods like the summer season, 3rd-party OTAs like Travelocity and Airbnb can be delayed in displaying current availability. Also, with additional fees charged to hosts for listing on these platforms, many vacation homes may not even be available on them. Booking direct gives direct communication with the property host for making special requests and coordinating arrival/departure logistics.

  • Book early

The old saying “early bird gets the worm” rings true when it comes to booking a vacation rental during the peak season. With increased demand during the summer, many travelers make their reservations well in advance of their travel dates. The earlier you begin planning your trip, the more properties are available, including highly sought-after oceanfront stays. We recommend reserving your accommodations at least 3-6 months in advance if you’re planning to visit during the summer.

  • Take advantage of last-minute deals

On the other hand, sometimes it pays to wait! Rental homeowners often offer last-minute deals to fill vacant slots on their reservation calendar. The good thing about these deals is that they’re often offered as discounts from the normal nightly rate. The downside is that it’s hard to plan in advance for last-minute deals, and it may not fit your desired location or amenities. Check out our latest deals and discounts on Wrightsville Beach vacation rentals here (https://seascapevacationhomes.com/deals-discounts).

  • Search nearby areas

Oceanfront properties and accommodations in the main tourists areas (for example staying near the Carolina Beach boardwalk or in Surf City on Topsail Island) always have the highest demand. If these properties are unavailable during your travel dates, expand your search to nearby areas, such as Kure Beach (a 5-10-minute drive from Carolina Beach) or North Topsail Beach (a 10-minute drive to Surf City). With onsite parking available and bike-friendly roads, these locations still make you feel like you’re in the heart of it all.

  • Book during the week instead of the weekend

Regardless of what season you’re traveling, weekend dates are typically more popular to book than during the week. That’s good news for travelers who are flexible because some of the best properties may have availability during the mid-week. There’s always something to do in the North Carolina beach towns during the week, including seasonal events, tours, and visiting local attractions. It’s even easier to score reservations at the best waterfront restaurants during the week.

  • Reserve a unit instead of the entire rental

Sea Scape Properties manages several vacation homes designed to accommodate larger groups by combining two units. Our Luxe 220 Suite 7 in Wilmington and the Pelican Post vacation home in Wrightsville Beach can both fit up to 20 guests. These properties can also be rented out as separate units (Pelican Post A & B) or individual Luxe suites. If one unit is reserved, the conjoined listing will be unavailable, but travelers can still book the individual units.

  • Be mindful of major events, holidays, & festivals

The most popular times to visit the North Carolina coast during the summer? During major holidays like Memorial Day and the 4th of July! Also, popular annual events, such as the Carolina Beach Music Festival (early June) and the Cape Fear Blues Festival (June). These events attract tens of thousands of people, which means many travelers are booking accommodations. If your travel dates coincide with a holiday or other local event, it’s best to plan ahead and lock in your reservation as early as possible.

  • Be flexible

Do you have a list of Sea Scape vacation homes added to your favorites? Adjusting your travel plans to fit their availability is a strategy to cross your dream accommodation off your bucket list. For example, one property may have more availability during the week compared to weekend dates. Also, you can adjust your travel dates to fit your reservation between two other bookings during the busy season. The more flexibility you have with travel plans, the more likely you are to find the perfect accommodation.
